A delegation of the Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex/Group) joined a working visit of the National Assembly Standing Committee to Can Tho City, and Soc Trang and Hau Giang provinces on October 9 and 10, 2023. Petrolimex delegation was led by Secretary of Petrolimex Party Committee, Chairman Pham Van Thanh; Petrolimex’s chief accountant Nguyen Ba Tung; and Secretary of Petrolimex Can Tho’s Party Committee, Chairman Vo Thai Son. In these localities, in the presence of Politburo member, Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue; Party Central Committee member and Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai; and representatives of the Central delegation as well as the local authorities, Secretary of Petrolimex Party Committee, Chairman Pham Van Thanh presented Petrolimex’s donation worth VND15 billion (US$612,000) for the construction of 300 housing units for poor households, near-poor households and households facing special difficulties in housing.
In response to the Central-launched movement titled “The whole nation join hands to support the needy – leaving no one behind”, the Fatherland Front branches in Can Tho City, and Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces have, through the “Fund for the poor”, received the active company and support of agencies, businesses, individuals and organisations in the cause to reach the goals of sustainable poverty reduction, leaving no one behind. Nevertheless, there is still a significant number of poor households, near-poor households, and extremely disadvantaged households that need support, especially in terms of housing. Can Tho City has more than 1,900 poor households, 7,590 near-poor households; Soc Trang has 15,139 poor households and 26,242 near-poor households; and Hau Giang witnesses a relatively high number of poor households.
Petrolimex’s donation of VND15 billion to support the construction of 300 housing units for the needy in the localities will continue spreading the “Support those in need” spirit. In the southwestern region, Petrolimex authorised Petrolimex Can Tho’s member units to manage the petroleum business in the four localities of Can Tho City and Hau Giang, Soc Trang, and Bac Lieu provinces. Over the past years, Petrolimex Can Tho has well performed its role as a State-owned enterprise making significant contributions to ensuring energy security in the region, particularly when there was a serious shortage of petroleum supply, and contributions to the local budget. Concurrently, Petrolimex Can Tho has always attached importance to social welfare activities. In the 2020-2023 period, Petrolimex Can Tho spent over VND7 billion assisting education, healthcare and housing construction for the impoverished households.
