Petrolimex holds national fire fighting and prevention competition

Petrolimex held its first national fire fighting and prevention competition in the northern city of Nam Dinh on October 19-20.
Attending the opening ceremony were Doan Hong Phong, a member of the provincial Party’s Standing Committee and Vice Chairman of Nam Dinh province People’s Committee; Major-General Tran Anh Dung, Deputy Head of Police for Administrative Management; Major-General Tran Trieu Duong, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Fire Fighting Department; Colonel Dang Van Sinh, Director of Nam Dinh Province’s Police; Colonel Do Van Son, Director of the Fire Fighting and Prevention Department and leaders from provincial fire fighting services.
In his opening speech, Vuong Thai Dung, Deputy General Director of Petrolimex and head of the organising board, said that petroleum and petrochemicals businesses place a great emphasis on fire prevention and control as well as environmental protection. Petrolimex always pays a lot of attention to and prioritises fire and environmental safety works. The task has been carried out by senior leaders and workers alike, who work on petroleum and oil projects.
The corporation has also invested heavily in new technologies as well as inspections to keep to the State’s regulations and laws on fire safety.
Petrolimex has poured thousands of billions of dong to upgrade and modernise its storage facilities, ports and pipelines and promote safety when operating and exploring, as well as providing education on fire fighting and prevention for staff.
In recent years, Petrolimex and its members have worked closely with the Ministry of Public Security’s Fire Fighting and Prevention Department and local services to promote education on fire control, improve management capacity and contribute to protecting human lives, assets while boosting production and ensuring social order and security.
Bui Ngoc Bao, Petrolimex’s General Director, said that the competition was an opportunity for staff to learn and improve their fire control skills. It was also an education for people from all walks of life on how to fight fires and prevent them, he added.
This year’s competition drew the participation of nine Petrolimex members, including petroleum companies: B12, zone I, zone II, zone III, Nghe An, Ha Nam Ninh, Phu Khanh, Binh Dinh and western Nam Bo. Earlier, a Petrolimex competition on skills in fire fighting and prevention was held in the northern, central and southern regions.
This year’s competition includes the women’s 100m race and stamping out a fire with a blanket; the men’s 100m race and putting out a fire with fire-extinguisher and the mixed 300m relay race to put out fires and rescue assets. The competitors also joined eloquent contest on fire fighting and prevention and settlement of fire cases.
Petroleum company zone 1 took first prize, the petroleum companies zone III, Ha Nam Ninh, B12 won second prize and the petroleum companies zone II, Nghe An, Binh Dinh, western Nam Bo, Phu Khanh rescued third prize.
